Time to Roll In and Rock Out

Splitsville Luxury Lanes – Downtown Disney California

Did you know? Bowling is the World’s Number One participatory sport. This could explain why bowling alleys like Splitsville Luxury Lanes are opening in places such as Downtown Disney California. What is Splitsville? It is part bowling alley, but not like the alleys where your grandparents bowled on leagues back in the day, and part restaurant with some of the best and freshest food available. With six locations nationwide, the Splitsville location in Anaheim is the second one at a Disney property. It’s time to roll in and rock out!

Splitsville Luxury Lanes Anaheim officially opened on March 15, 2018 after a soft opening since mid-January. Located in Downtown Disney, Splitsville is in a brand new two-story mid-century modern-style building on the spot where the Anaheim House of Blues used to be before it moved to Anaheim Garden Walk in 2016. When we visited Walt Disney World in November 2016, we saw the Splitsville located at Disney Springs, but didn’t have a chance to go inside. So, when I was invited to check out the location in Anaheim, I made sure to not miss this opportunity.

When you visit Splitsville you will first need to decide if you are dining only, in one of the main restaurant areas, or if you are bowling and dining at the tables next to your lane. Up to eight people can bowl per lane and there is a long table with a cushioned bench on one side and bar stools on the other for hanging out while you are eating or waiting for your turn to bowl. Splitsville Anaheim has a total of 20 lanes located on both the first and second floors. The lanes are clustered in different areas, which adds to the luxury feel of having a semi-private alley while you are bowling and also cuts down on the overall background noise from the bowling balls being released and the pins being knocked down.

Upon checking in at Splitsville, if you are bowling the attendant will take down the names of each bowler and ask for shoe sizes. If you forgot to bring socks, Splitsville has a variety of bowling themed socks available for purchase. When your lane is ready, the attendant carries the bowling shoes for your group in a plastic basket. This may seem like a small gesture, but when your hands may be full, having someone help you carry your bowling shoes is much appreciated. The rates for bowling, which includes shoe rental, are per person and the amount of time to bowl is based on how many people are in your group.

After you are settled in at your lane, a food server will greet you and begin taking your beverage and food orders. The Splitsville menu has something for everyone – from BBQ chicken pizza to macho nachos and chicken chopped salad to veggie burgers. The food is made fresh to order and one of the more popular dishes is the hand rolled, freshly made sushi. Yes, that’s right – sushi at a bowling alley!

During our visit, we sampled the cheese pizza and the cheeseburger sliders. The hand-tossed pizza dough is made fresh daily and the sliders were much larger than I was expecting. At the lane next to us, the ladies ordered the loaded French fries and this dish looked appetizing. In addition, the dessert offerings sound amazing – Ghirardelli brownie sundae, super sundae, root beer float, banana streusel pizza, or giant cake. But we were so stuffed we couldn’t eat another bite! I learned that the menu at Splitsville Anaheim is similar to the location in Orlando, Florida. You can check out the full Anaheim menu here. You can also walk in and place a carry out order at Splitsville – this may be a good option if you are staying at one of the Disneyland Resort hotels.

Depending on the skill level of the bowlers in your group, you can request bumpers for the lane to prevent gutter balls. This is set up at check-in and the bumpers are activated electronically, which means they are linked to a bowler’s name on the score card. When it is that person’s turn, the bumpers will move into place and when the turn is over, the bumpers will go away. If you decide you’d like to add the bumpers mid-game, this can be arranged by speaking to one of the attendants. For our group of three people, our bowling time was pre-set at 1 hour, 15 minutes. In our allotted time, we were able to bowl two games and eat our food without feeling rushed.

The décor and artwork at each Splitsville Luxury Lanes is tied to the location. This site’s theming in Anaheim has unique hand painted murals featuring some of California’s iconic symbols – such as the California grizzly bear that is on the state flag taking his turn at bowling and an orange grove fruit crate packing label complete with a giant orange bowling ball. Have you ever noticed how the holes on a bowling ball sort of look like a hidden Mickey? The background music is upbeat and not too loud to drown out conversations. Live music is featured every day on the stage located at the outdoor covered patio. Overall, the vibe of Splitsville is fun and enjoyable.

During my visit, I was able to ask Ashley Evans, Assistant General Manager, some questions about additional offerings available at Splitsville.
